Reid said that Republican obstruction could cause another economic crisis if a deal to raise the debt ceiling isn’t reached.
"I hope my Republican colleagues will not take their partisan ploy so far this year. … It’s time to engage in a responsible budget process.”
Senate Democrats have asked for a unanimous consent agreement to appoint budget conferees five times since passing a budget more than 50 days ago, but Republicans continue to object unless Democrats agree that the conference report would not raise taxes or the debt ceiling.
Reid has called that GOP demand “hostage taking.”
He also called for a budget conference in order to deal with sequester cuts and the debt ceiling in addition to setting a budget for 2014.
