NBC "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie is quite the quick-change artist.
Right after Thursday’s show, Guthrie hopped a plane from New York to Washington, D.C., with fellow co-anchor Matt Lauer for the USA Weekend Make a Difference Day Awards. But the bubbly TV personality wanted to be cozy for her trip, telling ITK, “I’m five-months pregnant, so I thought, you know, I’m going to get in my old, schlubby elastic pants for the plane ride.”
The only problem? Her luggage didn’t make it to D.C.
So after landing, Guthrie, along with “Today” show correspondent Jenna Bush Hager and an NBC aide, made a mad dash into Saks Fifth Avenue.
“We ran into the store. Matt timed me. Megan, who works at NBC, Jenna, and I fanned out. Jenna [went] to shoes, Megan and I [went] to dresses.”
The entire quickie trip was timed by Lauer.
“Sixteen minutes and 13 seconds,” Lauer declared, calling it “a para-military operation.”
Donning a red, lace dress and nude heels, the audience at the National Museum of Women in the Arts-held luncheon likely had no idea of Guthrie’s speed demon shopping spree. The 42-year-old host, who announced her pregnancy on-air last month, was all smiles as she posed with Jon Bon Jovi and 10 groups of honorees being recognized for their volunteerism.
When asked by ITK if Lauer would like to have any more politicians to co-host the show, (Sarah Palin played co-host back in 2012), he replied, “When the election season heats up, we’d like them all to come on. Maybe not as co-hosts, but we’d like them to spend time with us.”
Guthrie chimed in, “Especially as the campaigns heat up, we’re interested in everyone that’s running.”
