A senior Republican official said the Mitt Romney campaign raised more than $100 million in June.
Rick Wiley, the GOP’s national political director, made the claim in a tweet sent to Obama campaign director Jim Messina and senior campaign adviser David Axelrod.
“.@Messina2012, check this out bro, we raised north of $100 million in June,” Wiley said. “I'm assuming u & Axe will need beers 2night bro.”
An email to the Romney campaign to confirm the amount has not been returned.
The $100 million includes contributions made to a joint fundraising committee made up of the Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee. The Obama campaign has not released its June fundraising numbers yet, but the eye-popping Romney figure will keep the pressure on the president to keep up.
Romney outraised Obama by $17 million in May. It was the first time he had done so, and at the time, the Obama campaign said it was a fluke due to it being the first month the Romney campaign and the RNC could jointly fundraise.
In September 2008 the Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee combined to raise $193 million, the highest amount ever raised in a month.
