The Bureau of Prisons announced Friday in the Federal Register that it cost more than $29,000 to incarcerate one prisoner in 2013.
That's about $80 a day.
For ex-cons living in halfway houses, the cost was about $26,000, or $73 a day, the agency said.
The price includes the costs of both housing and feeding prisoners.
